Personal Pronouns

This poem received an Honorable Mention at The 2021 Iris N. Spencer Poetry Contest organized by The West Chester Poetry Center in April 2021

"

What do I get out of time

If you don’t occupy it anymore

What do I get out of my bed

If you don’t leave it unmade in the morning

What do I get out of my diet

If I can’t look at myself in the mirror

What do I get out of smoking

If I don’t have anyone to share one with

What do I get out of the sun

If I never see the sea

What do I get out of socks

If you’re not there, touching my feet lightly at night

What do I get out of my bags

If you don’t throw your keys and wallet inside them

What do I get out of my ears

If I can’t listen to our songs

What do I get out of personal pronouns

If I can’t use any longer

us.
